to some degree i think its celebrating their "heritage" from like 1500s to 1860s (probably not nearly that far back tho) where they: a) had slaves, and b) were effectively rich. could be some fucked up "im related to royalty!" thing where the royalty is just heinous slave owners

What’s weird is proudly associating oneself with the confederacy. I’d much rather hang out with a guy who’s way to into MCR than a guy who supports century old slavery defenders.

the dumbest thing is that they WEREN’T rich. 90+% of the white population of the South was poor sharecroppers- the modern word for “peasant,” because they literally lived in a feudal system. sharecroppers (the peasants) were given land by the landowner (the lord) and had to pay X amount of their production as “rent” (taxes) Confederate sympathizers today are just sucking the dick of the 1%ers from the 1860s who effectively owned their ancestors, just a degree removed from actual slavery.
