I mean, I feel like it works for families, but then you get parents staying in the 5 bedroom house even after the kids move out

The suburbs are just the worst of both worlds between the city and the country. Bumper to bumper traffic like the city, AND nothing worth walking to within walking distance like the country. Dogshit location.

Suburbs tend to be cheaper than the city, not sure why you keep trying to go the “ur broke!” route

Actually there are some very nice suburbs that I don’t hate in spots like the broader Chicago area Or a lot of Dutch suburbs are quieter but you can easily bike or walk to a train station, grocery store, bar, very easily. They have the necessities even if you have to take the train into the city for events.

I grew up in the suburbs of Charlotte and I think it would’ve been a better location if I’d been either 10 miles closer to the city center, or 10 miles further out. My folks live in the country like 35 minutes out of town now and that’s way better than South Charlotte suburban sprawl. If I still lived in Charlotte, I’d wanna live uptown though.

Correct. People live in suburbs because they don’t want to deal with the shitty parts of the city. City people hate suburbs because they’re not cities. This isn’t some taboo, I’m not sure why people have a such a problem when people just want to live far away from you. You’re not entitled to be someone’s neighbor

I don’t like they cuz they’re not cities + they drain the city’s resources (cities subsidize suburbia)

Yeah, I just moved to the west coast like 3 weeks ago, I’m living in downtown Salem, Oregon and I’m really rockin with it, part of the reason being that there isn’t much suburban sprawl here at all. Like Charlotte is a huge nightmare spiderweb of suburbs, here it’s a lot less of that.

The only real downside to the PNW is that it rains all winter. I will not see the sun from November-March. But it doesn’t rain at all in summer, and it’s not miserably hot and humid here. It’s 8am and it’s 65 degrees rn, with a high of like 85 at midday. High 50s when the sun’s down. Great change of pace from North Carolina’s 100 degree days and 85 degree nights. I will miss warm ocean water though.

Yeah I grew up in a suburban neighborhood of a big city because the schools were good there, and as soon as I graduated from high school my parents moved out to the country because they didn’t need the benefits of living in town anymore.

Yeah it’s kinda funny being from the Southeast up here because these people have a different meaning of hot. Oregonians b making small talk like “man, it’s hot out today, huh?” and I’m just like man y’all really would not make it in the Southeast. But I bet I’m gonna get hit with crazier seasonal depression when the rainy season comes compared to the locals too, since I’ve never seen 5 straight months of rain in my life. When I fly home for Christmas the sun’s gonna be a sight for sore eyes.
