Why does Indian immigration in particular seem to elicit such an extremely negative emotional response (at least online) by many, even generally pro immigrant leftists? It’s my understanding that Indian immigrants generally do pretty well and keep quiet

Indians can be, for lack of a better word, disrespectful..

People on the left tend to not like Indian immigrants because most of them are pretty wealthy and come from privileged backgrounds in India, which sometimes leads to awful politics. (Though I think this tends to get overstated) People on the right hate Indians for the same reasons they hate other immigrant groups: racism

Interesting. What makes you say that?

the idea of fairness is generally lost on them. getting the better deal is seen as a success regardless of how it affects the other party. scamming someone is just a sign of how much smarter they are than the other party. there is no remorse or second thought to fucking someone over

A lot of people also have a perception that Indians are nepotistic and are biased towards other Indians, similar to stereotypes about Jews. Yes, Indians are nepotistic (as are Jews and other white people and any group with enough capital to be) but there’s no bias towards other Indians in general. Indian favoritism tends to be towards people of the same caste/community, and other Indians are often placed below white people

I’ll also say that there’s plenty of Black people who don’t like Indians and other Asian immigrants cause these groups are often racist towards Black people (though Black people are sometimes pretty racist back)

i said i was in the first sentence. there’s always exceptions to the rules but the rules exist for a reason. it’s simple pattern recognition and it doesn’t take a genius to know not to stick your hand in a fire.

this whole second paragraph contradicts itself. “there’s no bias towards other indians” then go on to say indians favor other indians within their own castes and place other castes below themselves and whites.

i’m generalizing a group of people on cultural norms and how i’ve seen them interact within various other cultures. i know plenty of “good” indians. who are smart and socially acclimated to the west and want to contribute positively to our society. i’ve dated 2 before. if you think saying all indians are bad then you’re missing the point.

you shouldn’t inherently hate people bc of generalizations but generalizations do help us keep people sorted and know how to interact from a broad perspective. yes, everyone has their own life experience but operating from what you know to be generally true is a good way to start. you can adjust on the fly but to walk into every interaction like it’s going to be completely new is silly and honestly disrespectful if you know better.

I said there’s no bias towards Indians as a whole from other Indians
