Is gross maga incompetence (hegseth texting war plans to random people, bondi announcing the Epstein list was on her desk then saying it doesn’t exist, RFK in general) a bug or a feature? Thoughts?

Bug, instead of appointing people who are any bit qualified and firing them when they don’t do crazy and illegal things to appoint someone slightly less competent who will do those things for a promotion, Trump jumped right to last step and just appointed a bunch of sycophantic loyalist who will do whatever he says, the downside is they aren’t actually that good at anything

feature, recruiting people based on loyalty instead of competence will make that happen (but I guess from their eyes it is a bug)

Except for RFK, it’s a feature. Without their constant slip ups this admin would be even worse and still have more support

Incompetence literally got Kilmar Abrego Garcia out of CECOT

Yeah for me that fits more into the bug category; they want loyalists and loyalists are gonna be incompetent. My only thought for the feature argument is that incompetent people help normalize an incompetent president and help to fill the space with more noise

Sorry I’m not sure I follow, could you elaborate?

I think the conclusion here is that bugs are features

One of the attorneys admitted in court that deporting KAG was a mistake. Between the judge ordering them to get him back and the focus on him from the public, he could still be in CECOT to this day if that didn’t happen

That wasn’t incompetence though, that was an career DOJ attorney not bold face lying to a federal judge, which he was ofc fired for

Oh I see, you’re saying that if the admin was more competent they’d be more dangerous and have even more support, right?

Cause if so, I definitely agree. My question was more getting at if the incompetence is something the trump admin sought out intentionally (feature) or is just having to deal with as a result of their quest for loyal employees (bug)

If that was the goal couldn’t they have found somewhere in the middle though? Like aren’t there pushovers who will do anything to please trump who aren’t RFK? I mean he says a lot of things that more sane republicans struggle to defend

ah shit you’re right, for some reason I thought the attorney was new. Turns out he’s been there for 15 years

Correct. I see what you mean now. It’s a feature for us 🤣 the incompetence is likely a bug for them. They have to go to such great lengths to find loyalists now that they’re hiring people with no prior job experience 😭

The RFK thing was likely to convince him to get out of the race because they saw him as a threat. But otherwise they probably could have just had some random person be secretary of HHS. Maybe Dr. Oz? But some of his base might still think Oz is compromised by the healthcare lobby or something

Take the US Attorney for the District of DC for example. This is the first time in 50 years that the position was held by someone who hasn’t previously been a judge or prosecutor at the federal level. And mannnn does that guy do everything Trump asks

The HHS thing was just get RFK out of the race and he couldn’t care less about that department as long as it doesn’t defy him on anything especially since Melanie softened him on abortion, the rest of the secretaries are pure partisan loyalists who have an audience of 1 at all times

I would actually say that RFK is the only one in the cabinet who actually stand for anything, even as crazy as those things are

Ed Martin’s appointment failed because of his broad support for J6ers but Pirro is similarly nothing but a partisan loyalists who although she actually was a prosecutor and judge, Ed Martin now leads the working group focused on weaponizing the DOJ against Trump’s enemies

oh fuck 💀 I forgot Pirro has that position now LMFAO. She hasn’t been a federal prosecutor either though, just district attorney

Better than nothing, it’s still really bad for everyone when high level prosecutors are incompetent hacks so if they’re at least somewhat qualified I’ll take it

Yeah you’re definitely right about them wanting RFK out of the race, legit forgot there were a lot of people who were considering voting for him
