Staying informed just to be informed is terrible for your mental health, and not very useful. Get out of the 24/hr news cycle, get off of social media and read books on politics instead. You can consume the news, but try to limit how often you do. Once a week is plenty. If you can, narrow your consumption down to just a couple issues.
Also as some people have said limit your time. With that be mindful of your sources and time of day. For me, I checked the news when I first woke up and right before I went to bed. Horrible habit. Checking it after work as I was decompressing helped - I could shift my focus from both.
