Hey guys. I know this is probably the wrong group of people to ask. But do you have any tips on how to deal with political anxiety? I like to stay informed- but every time I watch the news and learn about some new atrocity it sends me into tears Pls Help

Listen to NPR-style reporting where the political news is interspersed with arts and culture. Round out your media diet so you aren’t exposed to humanity’s worst parts constantly

If you wanna keep up to date without going bonkers, take regular breaks from reading about politics throughout your day.

A few ways: Have a friend or family member tell you about anything important. Ask ChatGpt to provide a brief summary. Watch some shows that cover it in a humorous way. Only view “breaking news.” Or for every “bad story” look at a good one.

Staying informed just to be informed is terrible for your mental health, and not very useful. Get out of the 24/hr news cycle, get off of social media and read books on politics instead. You can consume the news, but try to limit how often you do. Once a week is plenty. If you can, narrow your consumption down to just a couple issues.

Also as some people have said limit your time. With that be mindful of your sources and time of day. For me, I checked the news when I first woke up and right before I went to bed. Horrible habit. Checking it after work as I was decompressing helped - I could shift my focus from both.
