Have you ever witnessed a debate on this debate between two people of opposite political views, that didn’t at some point end up in insults or pointless angry bullshit

I've had quite a few. Most aren't handled well but I have some good conversations on here otherwise I wouldn't be here.

Have those been on a less sensitive topic? Like for example it feels like a reasonable debate on fiscal policy isn’t that strange, but if it comes to things people are more sensitive about then it’s almost impossible

I remember having like a 3 hour long conversation a few months ago about what to do about Trump with a moderate conservative. We landed on impeachment. I enjoyed that conversation.

I once had a pretty good debate on capitalism vs Marxist-Leninism. It got heated but eventually resolved back down to chill disagreement. It all stems on willingness to learn and willingness to admit when you were wrong about something

I also had a conversation abt socialism being intertwined with capitalism as a possible resolution to wealth inequality and civil unrest. I like to start these conversations with a baseline understanding of where the other person lands so it's easier to help them understand what I'm trying to say.

The issue with that debate is it always devolves into an argument of definitions. So I like that you start with the baseline understanding of a “truth” upon which to debate. I’ve tried that too and found it makes for more productive conversations.
