I get the impulse (even though its kind of juvenile) to automatically be reflexively against the West, but imperialism doesn’t suddenly become good or justifiable when a country other than America does it. How is what Russia is doing to Ukraine right now any different from Europe’s colonial imperialism?

I would argue how is it any different then no-no-Germans in 1940s invading their neighbors?

Ok not defending Russia at all but there is 1 notable difference. The Holocaust.

except i’m not. Russia is invading Ukraine to prevent an Amerikkkan proxy from forming on its border, and for the mineral rights (that the US and EU) also wants in the Black sea. they aren’t denazifying Ukraine, nor are they invading Ukraine for Russians. i’m not condoning the invasion, just pointing out that Russia is semi-reasonable in their demands. meanwhile Amerikkka is blockading two nations whilst arming a genocide. the Washington narrative is allowed, but not any other narrative?

They’re leagues different dude. But here’s an idea- Russia stops its invasion and leaves Ukraine alone, then Ukrainians can have their elections

NATO’s ROE in these interventions has arguably never been as loose or disastrous as Russia has done in Ukraine. Russias track record of conflicts in Chechnya, Georgia, Syria and Ukraine has yielded drastically more civilian deaths and atrocities than NATO has ever done

And NATO nations individual have supported Israel, which I don’t support or condone, but this isn’t NATO as an organization supporting Israel since they aren’t apart of NATO.

This is a pretty juvenile take on any geopolitical topic. Geopolitics is rarely black and white- it’s a lot, and I mean a lot, of grey areas. An example: I support Palestine and their right to self determination and wish to see the end of the occupation. I do not, however, support Hamas. Tho I can see why Palestinians go to them given their circumstances

mate you have a lot of good takes but criticizing the actions of an imperialist nation and league of imperialist nations by defend the actions of a different imperialist nation is just….weird. like you can recognize that what’s happening in Ukraine is essentially a proxy war of imperialism between NATO-aligned nations and Russia without inadvertently regurgitating Russia’s talking points yk?

Anonymous replying to -> #8 2d

that being said tho, it’s weird as fuck that OP is defending the cessation of elections in Ukraine. orangutan is absolutely right about it being an effective dictatorship, and that is common amongst states weaponized within proxy wars. (I can’t respond to the actual comment in question because the person who commented originally (I think #3) has me blocked lmao) let’s not forget that the fascists rising to power within the US also hope for that same cessation of elections to take place here.

I mean I did refer to the comment of yours in which you defended the cessation of elections. I believe you said that they can ā€œhave elections laterā€ or something along those lines? elections can indeed take place during an ongoing war; and any delays or cancellations of such should only be performed with the approval of the voting population.

ahh no, it was ā€œRussia stops its invasion and leaves Ukraine alone, then Ukraine can have their electionsā€ my issue is this exact justification is what the fascist regime here in the US is actively seeking to invoke, in order to cancel elections. Ukraine being invaded and abused as a proxy state is utterly terrible, but the destabilization of their democracy is also a part of that.

To an extent I get- but Ukraine literally can’t have elections under martial law according to their constitution because…well bombs and the like. And not to mention parts of Ukraine are under occupation so how would they be able to vote?

Their democracy is definitely being threatened outside and within, you and I can definitely agree on that, but the question still stands- how can elections happen safely and effectively with constant attacks, populations in occupied territory, and active soldiers in the fields?
