entirely different situations, politics has real impacts and they see that, partially correctly, as an attack on them -- were they right in it being stolen or in doing that? no, but would they be right in saying if it was that, it is an attack on them? yes. thats not parasocial, thats political.
I would say they are absolutely not right. They've been heavily manipulated through media propaganda and fear mongering. Regardless this goes far beyond just politics as many of them have their entire self worth involved with Trump. They will change their stances to fit more into whatever Trump is saying or doing. I've seen trucks with wraps on them entirely focused on Trump, adults with Trump themed birthdays, and people straight up saying they rather just have Trump be president for life.
i tried to be as clear as possible in saying their understanding of the situation was wrong and what they did was wrong -- but the hypothetical where they are right... it IS an attack on them. its not an attack on just trump. but they were wrong. people idolize trump, are diehard maga bc it's a "movement" but that is not a parasocial relationship. thats idolization and politics.
also, by definition, the insurrection was not parasocial. you had trump COMMUNICATING TO the people there or people considering going there. i dont have the tweets or his words, but he was, in effect, saying protest the results, they are targeting you and suppressing you. trump, as a politician, his job is to act like your friend, say hes fighting for you, hearing you, doing stuff for you. whether his actions are in line with his words, that IS NOT parasocial. there are two sides in that
