Mamdani’s family was forced to leave their home by the Ugandan dictator Idi Amin when he purged the country of its Indian population. Many of them came and settled in NY and NJ. Some moved back to Uganda after the dictatorship ended. Also it’s cheap asf to have a wedding with armed guards in Uganda lol definitely smth a hustler immigrant can afford
