There courses in college you can take to learn how authoritarian regimes come to power. We have well documented history to learn from. We are seeing a repeat of the start of so many horrific regimes in our own nation. When will we finally stop this?

I’m trying to ask what is the worst that can happen while living in an authoritarian regime (like c’mon, the national guard is going to become a police force). Selfishly I’m not going to be affected by it, I’m not sure if I should emigrate

From history: the holocaust, slavery, war, imprisonment for political dissidence, even greater wealth inequality From media: 1984, V for Vendetta, Fahrenheit 451

Those are just a small list of what can happen in an authoritarian regime. No one benefits from authoritarian control except for the ones in control.

Greater wealth inequality is definitely on the agenda if you look at Project 2025 (either lower income tax rates for middle and upper class Americans and raise the tax rate for lower class Americans or do away with income tax entirely). Imprisonment for political dissidence is another one I’m slightly worried about. You raise good points

when it becomes impractical to deport all “illegals” (anyone hispanic who isn’t white enough) and dissidents, they will switch to just killing people. the nazis originally wanted to deport all of Europe’s Jewish people, and only later realized the need for a “final solution” because that was both impractical and just not good enough for them.
