But I thought your guys' whole campaign was getting criminals out of the country? These people have done about the same as failing to renew your drivers license or paying your taxes a little late. Would you want to be shipped of to a place that you haven't been to since you were a child simply because you committed a civil offense?

Under your ideology, a 18 year old was sent to an El Salvadoran prison because he failed to renew his papers, which expired when he was 7. How does that context give our government any grounds to send him there?

Deportations under Biden and Obama are just as bad as deportations under Trump.

Quick assume my new narrative

The kids name is Marcelo Gomes de Silva. I made a mistake in my words, he wasn't sent to an El Salvadoran prison, but was sent to a detention center in which each cell had 20 to 35 men in it, so you'll have to pardon my misspeak on that. He is an 18 year old that they detained on his way to volleyball practice because they were looking for his father, which the vehicle was registered to.

Immigrants shouldn't be torn from their families for a civil offense.

What do you want me to make of you when you make the statement "it doesn't have to be a federal crime to warrant* deportation"? Should I assume that you are on the side of immigrants who are just trying to live a normal life here despite their status? Or should I assume that you believe it's fine to deport these people even if they're not actual criminals? Genuinely, based off your comment, which narrative does it make more sense to assume

Yes, I don’t think you have to be a criminal you ti be deported. But they should obviously have due process

Usually for that I would have to move a goalpost

Where’s the bullshit? That’s objectively true

You really think it’s justified to round up families and deport them to Guantanamo and El Salvadoran camps for an offense that’s on the same level as being caught drinking as a teenager?

I never said it was false, I just think it’s bullshit to try and act like that’s valid behavior, which it is

Just because you disagree doesn’t change that it’s objectively true

Except “this crime warrants this punishment” is not objective lol, that’s why we have courts and trials to determine appropriate punishment, because the law is often far from objective, such as here. But of course y’all wouldn’t care about due process anyways.

Okay, legally speaking someone does not have to commit a crime in order to be deported. You know that right?

Sure, but that doesn’t mean it’s a valid use of our tax dollars, time and energy to go out of our way to disproportionately punish people for something like this. I would hope as a nation we could come to that conclusion but clearly not. That’s my point.

Like, at this point you’re basically justifying “okay so you didn’t commit any actual crime, you’re just lacking documentation of citizenship which is a misdemeanor, so we’re going to send you and your family to camps, separate them and spend millions while doing so that could just as easily be spent helping you get your documentation.” Do you really think that’s the best route we could be taking as a country here?

But yes, I don’t think we should encourage illegal immigration. Kinda like what bernie sanders says

You are, but that doesn’t mean deportation is an objective punishment for it. My point is that deportation is not the set and stone end goal we need to be meeting here, that aspect is subjective within the law. I’m asking you if you feel deportation is the correct route to be taking with an offense as small as a misdemeanor?

Immigration law defines clear grounds for deportation

The law is not immutable, as you seem to think. My point is that clearly somewhere along the line, the system found justifications for putting people into deportation camps for misdemeanors. Nowhere, in any well adjusted legal system, is it objective and immutable to have that be a punishment.

“The law is not immutable” is an opinion held by every well adjusted justice system on the planet, and is a foundational belief of the U.S. Justice system. Do you think the law should be immutable?
