Crossposting bc nervous system regulation is political when we live under stuff like capitalism
All this “regulate your nervous system” discourse is tone deaf because it neglects privilege. Having your basic needs met and being able to access tools/care for that are prerequisites.

It’s much easier to have your needs met under capitalism, especially in the United States.

It’s the only study I can find on those specific numbers, but incomes in the bottom quintile have risen significantly since 2010

Quality of life in other nations has risen since 2010, unequivocally. This is a bunk comparison.

Please explain to me in detail how this is a reach lmao. It is objectively easier to “regulate your nervous system” if you don’t work 2 jobs in order to feed your children

Sure, but overwork is a symptom with many causes. There’s not that much detail to explain. People get through worse. It is still your responsibility to regulate yourself- ESPECIALLY if you have children. The cause being capitalism is indirect and irrelevant, because it doesn’t hold the solution- only you do.

“People get through worse” is literally the reason I made this post. It’s a lot easier when you have your basic needs met and can access resources to get your nervous system regulated. No amount of deep breathing is going to fix being unable to afford to feed your family or maintain housing, for example.

Why is so hard for you assholes to accept that some people have it way harder than others and we should try to uplift the disenfranchised as much as possible? I genuinely do not understand lmao

No one’s dunking on the concept of regulating your nervous system, but the folks talking about it need to talk about how doing so isn’t in a vacuum and recognize there are real barriers to doing so/discuss navigating those.

Like if you don’t think Chinese and Russian populations aren’t overworked, I literally don’t know what to tell you. Those are not capitalist nations- though I will acknowledge their status as “socialist” or “communist” nations is fragile at best. Do not say American consumerism is the cause for Chinese overwork, it is their government’s duty to crack down on sweatshops and improve conditions. A factor, not a cause.

The discourse on the topic isn’t aimed at Chinese or Russian people in those countries, so this is irrelevant. These are American creators aiming at a mostly American audience.

Right but it’s a false conflation to say capitalism is the cause of individual personal issues with mood and attitude. Like you have to take SOME responsibility at some point.

It’s not? You can clearly and directly map out how being in a system without guaranteed safety nets/having your basic needs met leads to a person having a dysregulated nervous system and subsequent consequences. The social determinants of health also are relevant to this, which is something these creators barely ever discuss.

It’s a nuanced topic of course you can help yourself but once again it’s also kinda hard to self regulate when you work two jobs to feed your children. Like I genuinely have no fucking idea what your point is 😭

Yes, safety nets. But you neglect the fact countries with the strongest social safety nets, *are* capitalist. Dem-soc, at best, but free market. Capitalism =/= no safety net, and no safety net =/= capitalism. Idk why this is so hard for y’all to grasp. So reactionary.

See comment about the discourse being America-focused/for an American audience as well as the use of “like”. There are other systems at play, which would take even longer to list and discuss

This is a majority American platform/section but sure, I can tack that on as additional narrowing information. Still, you can still have enough money to meet your basic needs or be reasonably affluent and still fear for your safety/legal consequences, which is something creators talking about nervous system regulation need to discuss in their work. I’m a part several groups at a higher risk of incarceration/police brutality/experiencing violence, for example

Creators; ok. See, I haven’t heard of these creators you’re talking about. Whatever they say is not my opinion, what I have said is. Any crossover is coincidental Absolutely. I am as well. Being autistic and disabled is scary in an admin that hates autistic and disabled people. But even still, those issues aren’t inherent to capitalism. Ableism knows no one economy, and neither does hate.
