So true, king. Personally, that’s why I went to school and started working for the defense industry instead.

we need to reduce animal agriculture

you’re the one who thinks this system works. it’s not my fault that your career is dependent upon ecological collapse. animal agriculture is responsible for a third of global emissions, comprises over 80% of total agricultural lands used, while only supplying a small portion of the calories for our diet, roughly 30%. we can sustain ourselves on plant-based diets and certainly should if we plan to continue living on this planet. otherwise there will be war and mass migration over water

all of those hundreds of millions of people will move out of the uninhabitable equator and guess where they’re going. y’all think the so-called ‘migration crisis’ is bad now, just wait

I will say I don’t consider myself a particularly strong believer/identifier of any one religion, and even from a logical standpoint none of this is real and we’re just quantum hallucinations but I still feel like our factory farming process is still deeply fucking up any sort of karmic/vibe based system out there bc that shits ATROCIOUS

It doesn’t pay better considering the size of the farm I’m not involving myself in, I’m just not going to chisel away at my health nor deal with an industry entirely dependent on the forces of nature. I continue to do what is asked of me and will for the majority of my life, but I’m not going to assume the mantle of responsibility in regard to running it 🥱

Not entirely sure what practices you’re referring to. My knowledge is primarily comes from the dairy industry, which probably treats its herds “better” than most because the profit motive comes from having a healthier herd (at least that’s one school of thought for quality). Beef, poultry, and pork farming is pretty fucked though.

beef cattle and lamb are the primary land waste issue. simply reducing those sectors would provide us with much more breathing room when it comes to the climate collapse. dairy, cheese, and other sectors use dramatically less land, but also suffer from the ethics issue. idk there’s no way to address the ethics without decolonization, because the commodification of animals is a direct result of that. this is why i’m an indigenous agriculture and permaculture advocate as opposed to industrial ag

Dairy uses land that can be otherwise used for food production, that’s one of the macro trade offs. Most milk is exported due to Americans not really being heavy milk drinkers. Butterfats and proteins are the only thing Americans are still using dairy for.

dairy uses dramatically less land than beef still. i’m of the mindset of localized production, where if Americans do not drink it, why produce it? obviously under capitalism it’s for profit

It’s not. You can’t get butterfats and extracted whey proteins without physically milking the cow. Drinking milk and lactose are the lowest profitable parts within the dairy industry. The other school of thought, which is the extreme side of factory farms, is pushing through as many cattle as you can to produce quantity and not worry about quality and higher premiums. They’re making their money off of the sheer amount of production, but are STILL making their money from proteins and butterfats.

Localized production would still require the same amount of land, it just becomes more spread out. You can debate the merits of USSR if you want, but one of the fundamental problems Lenin ran into was actually finding people who would do the actual farm work. It’s not luxurious nor do the margins really add up(unless you’re scaled for it). So why would anyone WANT to do hard labor with little pay off? You’ll run into that same problem if you try to localize farming.
