And yes I know the ideal solution is public transit instead of more cars but the country is a car based country by infrastructure and has been for decades whether we like it or not

Yes, but us auto makers would be severely impacted. I‘m not that some protectionism isn’t warranted for the sake of preserving US industry. But if the core argument for not allowing Chinese cars by US automakers boils down to„wah wah wah, we make overpriced shitboxes with screens that break after 80k miles, and if you opened up more competition then we would have to actually produce good cars“ then the US automakers industry really needs a big shakeup.

At this point, US auto companies deserve to bankrupt themselves by the fires of their own corporate incompetence, or start producing reasonably priced, reliable vehicles that people actually want to buy.
