if massie’s loss isn’t evidence of serious political corruption and lack of integrity in our political system (his opponent had the most expensive us house campaign of all time), idk what is

The expensive campaign isn’t the issue, of course it’s going to cost a lot to defeat an incumbent, and there aren’t too many high profile primaries anymore. The issue is that conservatives should love Massie on paper- he’s a conservative who votes with Republicans on almost everything. But he’s against pedophilia, so Republicans wanted to get rid of him. Their devotion to Trump is more important to them than conservative policies

the expensive campaign was just one example, that’s definitely true too

Nah I really think the spending has so much to do with all of this. Attack ads weren’t anywhere near as prevalent or widespread, and rarely ever this targeted before the citizens united ruling. There’s a very strong correlation between campaign spending and success.

Expensive campaign is partially the issue bc it shows money is nearly an end-all be-all in politics, it’s the reason why Massie is gone solely

The issue also is that the most expensive primary races are nearly always races where the vast majority of money is poured into the pro-Israel candidate, look at Cori Bush in 2024 as an example, it’s an issue for both the Democrats AND Republicans

I’m a progressive Democrat but Cori Bush sucked. I like most of the squad, in fact AOC may be my favorite member of Congress, but I’m glad Bush lost. She seemed like a Republican plant with a goal of hurting Democrats. Israel is nowhere near the top of the list of reasons why she lost

How did she suck? Would love to hear your perspective, considering she got backing from most of the major labor unions in her district and the such.
