Anyone who thinks regulations are bad is fucking stupid. Imagine if every electronic had a different cable or if every mattress company made slight different sizes. It’d be batshit stupid. Regulations force companies to not be batshit stupid

every cell phone used to have a different charging cord and the choice between so many models with unique features made it actually fun and enjoyable to get a new phone. i miss when shit wasn’t a monopolized monoculture. :(

By the way, mattresses are not subject to legal regulation besides infant mattresses for cribs. The reason mattresses only come in a few different sizes is because it is economically efficient for companies to produce them in the same factories as their competitors or, if they own the factory, using equipment that is also used in competitors' factories.

On the different cables, companies would do that to make sure we would spend more money if regulations weren’t in place. That’s what Apple did for years

A lot of these “forcing everything to be a certain way” things are protections for the consumer, so companies don’t screw us over

sure. but we also just do lose a lot of potentially cool things at the same time. yes it helps aid against extortion practices, yes it prices out what could’ve been really cool inventions

A body of originalist scholarship has suggested that "regulate" means "to make regular". A "well-regulated militia" is therefore one that has standards and functions efficiently. Regulation of interstate commerce is likewise what happens when laws are passed to standardize commerce and make it flow without state-interstate barriers.
