
The gun industry has recently launched like 47 new ultra long range high powered rifle cartridges and gotten the sportswriters to shill them really hard. The problem is they have an extremely large overlap with cartridges that have been out since the 60s, but the rifles themselves are more expensive, the ammunition is much more expensive, and it’s much harder to find. my argument is that the differences are largely academic, and don’t in any way justify buying one of these things.
Yes, kind of, yes. It’s partly because I’ve been hunting for ages, but mostly because I’m a mechanical engineer and that sort of thing is really interesting to me because there are so many ways to solve problems in firearm design. I also think that those designs reflect heavily on the times and places that created them, which I also find really interesting
