you know how like at sea world when they have a killer whale accidentally kill a trainer they just drop it off at a new seaworld in a new city and don’t tell anyone what it did? that’s kinda what the clergy did with priests who were caught touching kids. just scrubbed it the best they could and dropped them in a new environment with more kids to touch. this still goes on because, like i said, it was barely talked about and almost no one faced consequences for it.

every few years there’s a new leak that another couple thousand kids were abused by a number of priests in x country or y state. i feel like the issue has been tolerated too long at this point, but that doesn’t mean i don’t hope you’re right. i think the new pope is a good one who may attack it more ferociously, francis left a lot to be desired in how he handled these things tbh despite bringing about some progress within the church.

yeah i grew independent fundamental baptist and they had similar issues. jack hyles and bob gray sr. specifically did a lot to cover up their reputation rather than protect children. the catholic church just has insane reach globally, so it’s going to end up being more widespread.
