Something ive noticed is (unintentional?) racism from democrats. My gf is a Colombian immigrant (legal) on OPT after getting her masters. Every dem I talk to says something like “oh my gosh I’m so sorry for her with ice” as if she’s an illegal immigrant

Like I say she came from Colombia. I don’t say her legal status bc why would I, and so many ppl say something like that and it kind of bothers me. Like why are you assuming just because she’s an immigrant that she’s illegal or gonna get deported. Idk if it’s just fear mongering from the news they think that any Latin person is at risk of deportation but it just seems so out of place to say something like that

I mean… they’ve deported ppl who are here legally before. Like often actually. Though its usually if theyre a person of interest

I don’t know if this is really racism tbh, it seems more like people reacting (some might say overreacting, I personally wouldn’t) to an administration that has been given legal permission to racially profile people to make arrests. Knowing that this is the dynamic with ice I think it’s understandable to be concerned for people who are immigrants and look like immigrants. I mean that’s why the trump admin did this in the first place, they want people to be scared about being grabbed w/o reason
