Because Britain took all of their food BESIDES the potatoes. So when the potatoes were dying, the Irish were forced to give all of the other food they’d been producing.

There was a fungal element from what I’m aware but the English sent little to no aid, prohibited the Irish from consuming any other grown crops than potatoes- as the rest were designated for trade and to be sent to the homeland of the empire.

I see. Typically I look into American history cause it shapes modern politics and a lot of it is funny but I never went so far into the rest of the world. All I knew was it was a fungus and course there were people to blame like with every natural disaster (inflamed by human intervention for the worse it seems all the fuckin time)
