What radicalized you? Like what was the history you were taught, moment in your personal history, or experience of someone you care about that made you really begin to think differently. What made you want to make a difference?

When I listened to Brianna Taylor’s boyfriend’s call to the police in 2020 I wasn’t very active in politics until then I kinda just accepted things we like this but when I heard that man ,Kenneth walker, crying on 911 saying they shot his girlfriend she’s not breathing help I realized something had to be done

Stupid, but that scene in Matilda where Miss Honey says “you were born into a family that doesn’t always appreciate you.” My parents were going through an incredibly messy divorce. I was the middle child. My mother was an alcoholic and my father was abusive. I was stuck. I’m in my last year of college to be a teacher.

I had been taught from birth to respect others and help when you can, and it just naturally developed from there. My parents are deeply conservative, but the values they instilled made me a radical leftist because leftism to me is making the most good for the most amount of people

You’re such a beautiful person for even thinking of a question like this. How thoughtful

Also featured in this movie was the incredible depiction of the public library, the way children (and adults) can unite for a common good, and that family isn’t always blood. For 5 year old me, it struck me hard, and it’s still one of my favorite movies.

After that though, my mom was a single mom of three kids (she’s now sober as well), and I saw with my own two eyes just how much she/we struggled. I didn’t have the best home life, but I had a great education (part of my reasoning for pursuing education) and I knew that one way or another we were all gonna make it out. That radicalized me. People need people.
