I think the reporters like Nick Shirley and the fact that Cuba doesn’t allow news networks in to freely record is enough evidence for me. Try to do some research on what would happen if you tried to go to Cuba with a camera for journalism reasons. The USA government won’t stop you. Cuba would stop you. This is why I trust the USA over Cuba.

Oh, idk, maybe we should not let an evil regime that hates the USA technologically develop themselves to start operations against us. With a bigger economy they could build missiles and threaten the USA. Then they could start oppressing surrounding islands as well. You aren’t dealing with civil people here. The Cuban government is okay with killing its own people. They’re even happier to kill Americans.

Wouldn’t that be the incentive already if we're embargoing them? They literally have nothing to lose. Why would they cooperate with us with zero incentive? Should we embargo every authoritarian country on the planet?

Yes. Their incentive would stay consistent regardless. Their technology would improve if we did more trade. Better technology = stronger military = threat to U.S. citizens. That’s the problem. It’s just the nature of governments that are comfortable killing their own people for speaking freely. And we already do embargo all evil authoritarian regimes. North Korea, Iran, Afghanistan, and Russia.

That’s not true we pay out Egypt which is an authoritarian regime that has killed protestors. Do you think we should embargo all authoritarian countries ? That would be like 60-80 countries out of 200.

That would also include places like Saudi Arabia, all of the gulf states (that Trump loves), Vietnam which is an important partner against China, China which the worlds greatest exporter. I don’t think you can embargo away every authoritarian country.

I said evil authoritarians, not all authoritarians. And Egypt is currently helping us against even more threatening authoritarians. They are evil, but useful for now. In China you can still become a successful businessman and use VPNs with no internet blackouts. China also allows free speech against local, but not federal government. Xi has been running the country well enough and is not threatening to the U.S. The Saudis are becoming progressive at a reasonable pace. They work with the U.S.
