The solution to oppression is not to have the oppressed become the oppressors. It’s for the hate and killing and violence to actually stop. And please note that I am saying the people of Gaza are being oppressed and starved and killed by Benjamin Netanyahu and his disgusting war cabinet. But nothing is solved by Palestinians or to kill Israelis or Jews because we’ll just be stuck in this cycle of violence
When has a less powerful group used acts of violence like this one and not ended up even worse off? Terrorism (and that’s what this act is, even if you support the Palestinian people or cause) has a 0% effective rate, and almost always strengthens the group they intend to harm. I’m not even arguing or disagreeing with you on merits (doesn’t matter exactly what I think vs exactly what you think rn). I’m simply saying that if those with power, be it Hamas decision makers or a radical with a…
…gun in the US, choose to do actions like this, they only ever result in worse results for their cause. Again, terrorism never works. Meanwhile, Civil Rights, end of Apartheid, Indian Independence (Gandhi), Sufferage, Philippine Revolution all worked long term because they didn’t use violence that strengthened the resolve of the people they were against.
While this situation is very different than the fascism on the rise here in the US, I think it’s worth a comparison. I take it as a given that you think Trump is awful, otherwise this doesn’t work. If we want Trump gone, there’s not a chance shooting at the White House or his supporters or members of the US government will help. There’s simply no chance it does anything other than make him use his force against us. If an organized movement tried to overthrow Trump, it would fail before even…
…really starting. It’s painful and long and doesn’t immediately feel like the awful people get what they deserve, but there’s no way to change this country for the better as violent radicals from the outside. You’ll hurt your cause, and you risk hurting or killing members of the government who may have what’s happening to you (the millions of public servants who want to serve their country and the world honorably).
Lastly, I know we don’t know each other and this is an anonymous app so it’s not easy to internalize the humanity of the “#x” on the screen, but I have people that I love in Israel. They hate Netanyahu both for his attempts at fascism and for his killing and starving of people in Gaza. They have young kids and wish that their kids could play with Palestinian kids in school. They don’t want this either, but they’re pretty powerless (though they’re not doing nothing, I assure you). More of…
…these people exist than you think or see, same way Europeans right now think more people are maga than actually are. When mortars go off or busses explode in Israel, these are the people dying. And then Netanyahu gets to use it as an excuse to cut off the little remaining aid getting into Gaza, thus hurting innocent civilians, not the Hamas leaders or people responsible, who have stockpiles of food for themselves anyway.
