Anyone else think it’s a bit odd how we have this? Like is it a local holiday or national? Maybe it’s just cause it’s called Israel day and not like day of 8 candles or something
It’s not incredibly uncommon for immigrant communities to celebrate the Independence Day of their relatives’ country, it’s just weird since Israel is a genocidal apartheid state

This is true, but what’s weird to me is just that it’s called “Israel day”. The Irish have Saint Patrick’s day, the Mexicans have cinco de mayo and dia de los muertos, Chinese have Chinese new years etc. but I don’t know any holiday that just calls it “country + day”
