Worth noting they’re not pro solar because they care about climate change. They’re pro solar because China is killing us in solar and they hate China. Wins a win though
Just learned a poll that was done by Kellyanne Conway showed 75% of conservatives are pro solar. Why the hell is Trump still screwing over our progress on it

I think a lot of them are pro solar because they like the idea of being off grid and self sustaining

He is against it because he hasn’t figured out exactly how to get into the family portfolio yet. Once he is, it will be top priority. That’s how it went with medical marijuana, too. State-level republicans were against it in every state until they figured out a way to structure the permitting and contracts in a way that benefited themselves and donors. They had to buy time to form the companies used to sell it.

It is definitely in large part due to China.

Do you have anything to suggest that it is?

I work blue collar and its almost exclusively conservative at my work. Whenever solar comes up in conversation there are many reasons why they’re pro-solar but china has never made the list

Its either because “fuck the government fuck the grid” or because they have it paired with a small battery backup to make sure their meat freezers dont spoil in a power outage

That’s fair, but anecdotal experience only goes so far. The average person installing solar probably isn’t thinking about China every day. Policymakers and political messaging absolutely have though.

Do you have anything evidence about the china thing, anecdotal or otherwise?

A 2026 national poll by Fabrizio, Lee & Associates found support among Republican and GOP-leaning voters jumped from 51% to 70% when solar was described as American-made and having no ties to China.

A 2025 Florida survey found 77% of Republicans said energy independence is a national security issue and supported policies that reduce vulnerability to countries like China and Russia.

The specific poll I mentioned found that majorities of Trump voters said solar helps close the electricity generation gap with China and supports U.S. energy security. The survey covered 1,000 voters across AZ, FL, IN, OH and TX.

Yeah solar is just cheaper than other forms of electricity in lots of places
