the concerning thing about the AI boom to me is the focus on everyday consumer infrastructure when there’s no way a profitable equilibrium for this tech involves everyone using it every day. they’re preparing for a scale and market they can’t sustain.

My research is more for narrow ai in the medical tech space catering toward companies and providers. The bs stuff will die off, but there is legitimately good work that is currently and will continue to pay dividends well into the future happening amidst the bubble

like, unless these models’ training cost and energy efficiency is DRASTICALLY improved we’re kind of fucked. A base chat query (as in, one message) costs like $0.36. The fancier ones cost way more. A Sora video is $5. how can they profit without narrowing availability or selling queries a la carte? Which would also de facto narrow availability

I agree there. I’m in the med device industry and working toward my comp Eng degree like I think there IS an equilibrium, and there are excellent use cases especially in med tech. but the markets don’t seem to understand this at all, and consumer products are building in AI tech that isn’t going to be cost effective very soon I’m concerned for the general economic impact but also sudden erosion of all this AI that has intruded most consumer web apps in both the front and back end

like, there’s just no way med tech and specialized use alone is going to return the $250 billion already dumped into AI any time soon

Yeah, it’s not. The bubble will prob pop at some point—and hopefully the impact isn’t catastrophic, but it looks like outside of ai our gdp growth the first half of this year was at like .5% so it’s not looking the best

Yeah definitely. I think it’s coming sooner rather than later, too. meta dropping 11% in a day off news of more AI investment and openAI announcing a $1 trillion IPO the same week isn’t a good sign
