Uhh, abide by the law? Respect government authority? Immigration and welcoming foreigners is different than open boarders allowing anyone/everyone in. Legal immigration is great, not against it in the slightest. But not everyone should be in this country.. not everyone comes with good intentions. Idk what’s with the people against immigration all together, but don’t put all “Christians” in the same box. I would say the U.S wouldn’t be what it is without its racial diversity.
So let me guess, you’ve never gone over the speed limit while driving? Never drank underage? Never looked at your phone while driving? Never gambled on a poker game with your buddies? Jesus did say “render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s” but he did not say “you should support Caesar doing awful things to migrants”
I’m not arguing for illegal immigration, I’m arguing against the dehumanization of illegal immigrants in the US. You can support stricter border policies for everyone’s safety and not simultaneously cheer on families getting torn apart, people getting sent to holding camps or deported around the world or arrested off the streets indiscriminately. There’s a difference
Sure, Jesus tells us that we should abide by the law and respect government authority. He doesn’t say to actively support policies that make the enforcement of laws more violent and tear apart families. He doesn’t say we should dehumanize criminals. A central part of his teachings is to treat the lowest members of society with dignity and humility
I will gladly cheer on someone who beheaded another person being put somewhere they won’t harm anyone else. The reality is that many of the people they’re taking away are not the depraved boogeymen you hear about, they’re desperate people who tried to give their family a better life. Even if they came here illegally to do that, I think we ought to feel sympathy for them as Christians. Many of these people just wanted to give their kids a better chance, and don’t we all?
No but many are the depraved “boogeymen” that you are not hearing about. Honestly i hear u and do sympathize but our own citizens have too many issues that i think need to be prioritized over being enraged that illegal immigrants are being taken away from their families. I’d rather give healthcare access to and house our veterans, for example. That’s where i think our priorities should lie. the legal process just needs to be reformed
I really doubt the people they’re deporting are like disproportionally more violent than the rest of the population. And I don’t think “we have our own problems” is a reason to just close your eyes and act like it’s not happening. If all those people were being murdered in camps would you still say the same thing? We can give veterans healthcare and housing AND not dehumanize illegal immigrants, it wouldn’t be hard at all actually
