What’s funny is that the United States has full monetary sovereignty and is the world’s reserve country, so we can “afford” whatever we want. The idea that the government should balance its budget like a household would is a common misconception considering the government is a currency issuer and not a currency user like households and businesses are. Taxes don’t actually fund everything. People just think they do.
