growing up in a catholic republican household is weird. as a kid i was taught to “love thy neighbor” and “treat others the way you’d want to be treated”. when it’s time to learn abt politics its all of a sudden “the poor need to help themselves”

I remember thinking handouts would genuinely make people more lazy. If I had my living expenses paid, I would still be working because I want to make a better life for myself, my family and any future kids.

As a confirmed catholic, I am the same way. Jesus does not contradict himself. His greatest teaching was to help the less fortunate. If u think any of his other words contradict that, u are not the godly person u think you are. What a person “deserves” goes beyond just death. No one deserves death? That’s true but no one deserves to be ostracized or left helpless either and that is what I live by

catholicism, at its core, teaches the preferential option for the poor. a hallmark of catholic teachings is that society and individuals have a moral obligation to prioritize caring for the poor and vulnerable. jesus himself said this throughout the bible: “whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (matthew 25:40). i went to a catholic school for 12 years trust me i know what im taking about

Jesus’s friends were the lowlifes of society drunks and prostitutes- and a quote from the Bible says smth abt how hard it is for a rich man to go to heaven, I forget the full quote lol but yeah I think Jesus would want you to help the poor bro

100% correct. the verse goes “Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” (matthew 19:24)
