I think the reason the right associates trans identity with violence is because that’s the only lens they understand gender through at all. They are so engrossed in patriarchy that they can’t imagine gender being important in a non-violent context.also fundamentally empathy is a sin within these groups. "the sin of empathy." to try to understand is to be too accepting. so they, at their core, cannot and refuse to understand. if men (or rw women) cannot understand why another man may transition, then the only lens that they see it through is a genderless one that they always have been exposed to, predation.
(1/2) I may be completely off base and I’m open to that possibility, it’s just a lightbulb I had. But it seems to me like one of the key features of patriarchy is violence. Violence to coerce women is normalized, which motivates violence of self-defense against men, which is used to justify further violence in retaliation. A LOT of cisnormativity is motivated by the fact that trans people inherently threaten the patriarchy because they destabilize gender categories.
(2/2) Just like women’s self-defense, that requires coercive violence to restore the status quo and punish acts that threatened it in the first place. But neither of those narratives is compelling so they need a myth to justify it. In both cases, that myth is “Those who threaten the patriarchy are malicious and violent, we must harm them to protect our good society.” I think that’s why the right is so desperate to manufacture an imaginary epidemic of trans violence.
Could the “epidemic of trans violence” also be because trans kids from being ostracized and abused become vulnerable to mental health issues and taken advantage of or by groups like 764. The last few trans shooters along with many other shooters like the Kirk shooter have had ties to the same decentralized accelerationist networks that target kids on discord and Roblox. IMO Protect Trans kids also means to recognize that they are at much higher risk of being groomed and radicalized online
