I mean the US did quite literally create Al-Qaeda during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, had enough intelligence to prevent it and didn’t, and then used the ensuing fervor as an excuse to invade a country that had absolutely nothing to do with it and kill a million people. None of the victims deserved to die, obviously. But it’s hard to argue America’s government didn’t at least kinda do it to themselves. Not as an inside job, but through massive negligence and short-sightedness.
