NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani promised city-owned groceries stores but Polymarket actually delivered with the city's first free grocery store. Capitalists doing socialism better than socialists... 😂

Keep in mind the NYC food bank helps provide 250,000 meals daily (Not the government but nonprofit) But thr government helps fund like 700 kitchens and etc

Capitalists doing a three-day long performative gesture faster than the politician who has to work for months to get things through the process lmao

A city owned grocery store was never going to be free, this isn’t capitalists doing socialism, it’s capitalists trying to put mom&pop shops out of business yet again like Walmart and Amazon did for decades.

They did this because they’re getting investigated for illegal and unregulated sports betting btw. Good PR cover.

they’re trying to avoid being taxed as a casino, so they’re looking for every alternative or cop-out possible.

Like NYC still has some big food deserts but they are doing shit, it’s nowhere near as stuff like Memphis or South Chicago And obviously way better than rural spots like Mississippi or Arkansas

But it was funny how I argued with someone on tiktok who called it a socialist bread line then when I told him it was done by polymarket it suddenly became a great achievement of capitalism

There’s some specialty or gourmet spots, but normal groceries have such little margins they don’t make much $$.

It’s again because of the 10% doing 50% of consumer spending etc… the real profit is catering just to the top 10%

It’s such a transparent propaganda play lmao, especially since it’s only three days and serving less meals per day than probably any soup kitchen in the city lmao
