If you’re in a state that isn’t a donor state (California, New York, Texas, etc.), you have no standing to criticize how California spends its taxpayer funds. Donor state funds only thing standing between your welfare queen red-state gov and insolvency.

For the record, I do think CA HSR is a boonedoggle (as a Californian). If they had set marginally more ambitious speed goals, the path of the track could have been easier to modify, and many of the largest hurdles to starting the project could have been avoided.

Forgive my kneejerk reaction then, 90% of the time I see these kinds of posts, it’s someone from like Iowa or Alabama making them, who take California tax dollars to cover their asses and then bitch about our fiscal policy. Do I still disagree with this point, because I have taken Amtrak, and have never seen free food outside of the one time I took a Roomette (and believe me, I‘m a bigback, I look for that kinda stuff). So I‘m not sure where you got that information from.

If you post a source I‘ll be sure to check it out. I‘m against tax wastage as much as everyone else.
