Unfortunately the government has done a lot to destroy its cultural heritage. During the 50s, the government damaged or destroyed many important archaeological sites as part of an effort to eliminate the visible evidence of Palestinian villages. This even included the destruction of historic Arab Jewish synagogues that existed within Palestinian settlements.
Hamas dissolved its government in preparation to transfer control to a UN-backed coalition; regardless though it’s kinda ridiculous to say that those committing a genocide aren’t able to stop until the ones they’re oppressing (at least a subset who militarized) must disarm. the simplest way out is for Israel to obey international law
I think Israel’s ethnic diversity as a country is really interesting. But again, the government is taking efforts to reduce that. The primary threat to the Armenian community of Jerusalem is continued encroachment by Jewish development firms, and an inability to maintain their community under strict Israeli rules. Minority languages are persecuted in favor of Hebrew. Plus there’s the ethnic cleansing of numerous Palestinian Muslim, Christian, Bedouin, Circassian, Druze, Metouali communities.
Israel got Hamas in power intentionally. Their continued encroachment in the West Bank undermined Palestinian faith in the PLO, leading to more radical groups to gain power. Israel then propped up Hamas after it took power, because radicals allow a great excuse for military expansion. Israel had a Gaza without Hamas for years. It changed that.
My point is that the disarming of Hamas isn’t going to stop Israel. Peace would mean they couldn’t expand, and that’s not what Likud wants. Israel is at peace with the PLO in the West Bank. And yet the IDF and settlers are still killing people there and stealing more land. Hamas disarming wouldn’t create peace because the current Israeli government doesn’t want peace. Netanyahu was one of many calling for Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination because he moved towards peace.
It’s the same playbook used in the western USA. Settlers move in and are free to commit violence against the native population. The military forces either make paltry efforts to stop it, or they look away, or they actively participate in the violence. But as soon as the native population retaliates, that is a brutal unprovoked attack which justifies massacres and further colonial encroachment.
