Hmm, what’s the alternative to landlords for meeting the needs of prospective renters who don’t want to take on the burden of property ownership?

Housing shouldn’t be a commodity. Additionally even if we commodify housing we still don’t need landlords. They provide nothing , they only gate keep housing.

If it’s not a commodity, how do we decide who gets to live where? Just purely random lottery as to who gets the better spots? And if you get rid of landlords, who’s taking on the burden of ownership and maintenance and paying taxes etc?
