It doesn’t fucking matter, let’s talk about the fact that slavery isn’t abolished worldwide.

you’ll find that the two are directly connected. colonialism and its legacy

Europeans are responsible for the Mercator projection and modern slavery. both of them are rooted in colonialism. learn history

Nah propose a fucking solution that does anything at all to your assumed issue with Europeans if I’m an idiot for assuming that’s what you want

I’ll restate, changing map projections has zero impact on anybody’s life and you are wasting oxygen caring about it

i’m white and European btw. we’re a diasporic group of peoples because of our relationship to colonialism as well, we just wield structural power, and what have we collectively chosen to do with it? subjugate the world and leave a mass extinction event in its place?

it’s not an issue with Europeans, but an issue with the systems our ancestors laid out. systems built on genocide, slavery, disregard for the planet, and a refusal to unpack or acknowledge any of it. the Mercator projection, like our calendar and mode of interpreting time are European in their origin and were forcibly exported to the rest of the world via colonialism and world dominance. unless you’re suggesting that something different occurred ?

and if changing a map projection isn’t that big of a deal, then why’re you bitching about a more accurate projection? literally shut the fuck up about it

the Earth is a sphere, dumbass. why would we intentionally distort the projection of the Earth to flatten it onto a piece of paper when we can change the projection for a more accurate image?

I’m wasting time talking to you. You’re sitting here complaining about shit that happened forever ago that literally changes nothing if you do anything about it. Oh look our map looks different, oh look the calendar looks different. Holy shit please actually get a fucking grip on reality and not intellectualizing bullshit.

and mind you, you’re bitching whilst being in the minority of people who actually care about the Mercator projection

It isn’t that big of a deal, there are other things like women being raped, homeless people on the streets, kids starving that are bigger deals. You are wasting time and effort on bullshit.

i have a feeling you support the economic system which necessitates those things. the same economic system that eventually resulted in colonialism and the exportation of all things european on the rest of the globe. you refusing to see the larger picture is ignorance on your part

No I don’t keep assuming bullshit. World hunger, sexual violence, poverty, etc. are all issues that intimately affect peoples lives. Map projections don’t. Stop wasting your time performative pos.

Our European ancestors also laid the foundations for modern science, modern medicine and constitutional-democratic government, so I certainly take issue with this assumption that the map is someone malicious because it’s European. If people want to use the Mercator projection because that’s what they grew up with and are familiar with (imo that’s the main appeal) then they should, if they want to use a more proportional map then they should use that.
