I mean it would still further hurt the popularity of the war effort and our entanglement with Israel, which most people already seem to not like

Trump has made clear he does not care about the impact to us this has. The only thing that’ll make him pay attention is a decisive midterm loss

And even then, he’ll probably not accept the results. We have a rogue president

I don’t think there’s much he can do without strong Congressional backing to stop the midterm results from going into effect. And if he did, I think there’d be mass protests like we haven’t seen since 2020. And not any of that “No Kings from 1-4 and promptly disperse!” shit either. And then he’s just kinda fucked if he tries some real dictator shit like sicking the army on the protestors, because that route only ends in civil war or a coup.

Like, even in full blown dictatorships that have been dictatorships for decades, mass mobilization followed by military orders to shoot their own people ends in coups. I think in a country that really prides itself on the whole liberal democracy thing, that pretty much guarantees a coup (which I will remind the room is the way that a VAST majority of authoritarians fall, to their own damn military brass)

It would close the only other waterway in the region all shipments go thru. That’s 2 of the most vital waterways in the entire world which used to be neutral, under hostile control

Interesting framing there, hostile to who?

It would also mean a whole separate navy deployment to start bombing Yemen. Which tbh could be a big problem since we couldn’t even back up the Lincoln
