Kind of a really hot take, but I think maybe it should be illegal to have children below a certain age.

Eh, I see where you’re coming from, but most young parents are irresponsible/in a bad situation so legal enforcement on the parents might make the child’s life even harder than it would have been

Enforceable how? Do you jail the parents and send the kid to foster care? Do you give them a fine and start the young parents off with major debt? Do you punish their parents and destroy their support system?

Casually very authoritarian belief posted on YY, not surprising

It really wouldn’t be, in practice.

It is authoritarian. But like also, I don’t want 12 year olds having kids that’s fucked up.

12 year olds can’t give consent

Of course, that’s kind of my point.

That’s already in law

It’s just one of those things where it’s like “yeah this shouldn’t happen, we could make it illegal” but making it illegal practically would be devastating

I agree. That’s why this is a hot take, and why I’m VEEEEEERY loosey goosey in my wording to make sure nobody thinks I’m tryna die on this hill. It’s essentially unenforceable and would in reality hurt more than it helps. But it’s a tempting idea.

So is it more like why suicide is illegal, so police have probable cause to stop it? Because thats both awful and hilarious the idea that cops get a tip of two teenagers having sex and break in to stop them.

It doesn’t stop people from intentionally becoming young parents.

If you like, couldn’t keep your kid legally if you had one under 14, I feel like that might stop.

So are you saying like state enforced abortions? That is quite an extreme viewpoint.

Because laws are always broken, enforcement of such law would literally only harm teen parents even more.

Well that’s why it’s a hot take

Are you saying state enforced abortions? Or am I assuming too far?

No that’s pretty much what I’m theoretically advocating for. I wouldn’t if someone actually tried implement that, but if I was grand pubah of the universe, it’d be tempting to consider state mandated abortions for those below a certain (very young) age.

To be clear, not something that can feasibly exist in a fair or just way in reality tho.

I’m confused, do you have two different beliefs: one being for a fictional world where you are supreme leader (kinda crazy thoughts ngl), and the other being for reality (where all beliefs exist)?

I’m not trying to ad hominem or anything I’m just trying to understand you

No you’ve pretty much got it nailed. Except for thinking it’s crazy to imagine what you would do if you ruled the world, how you would change society. I feel like that’s a pretty universal thought experiment

I mean I agree it’s just that I guess I find it hard for me to understand why you would want to implement something like that if you were truly committed to freedom for all

Well in reality I probably wouldn’t. There’s no irl proposal that I think I could get in on.

goosey?
