I hate how people always lump socialism with communism, I’m a socialist but communism is stupid. There’s a difference between having the government help you out with stuff and trying to have a collective ownership with no scarcity or capital.

Socialism is not when “the government helps you out with stuff” lmao

Why is communism stupid? I don’t personally identify as a communist but as far as I can tell Karl Marx didn’t distinguish between the two, right?

It’s cause we have examples of failed communism and it’s an easy way to scare people

Yeah I know but I can only fit so much in 255 characters or less. I know it has stuff regarding public ownership and collective welfare.

Most of those examples leave out the part about communism only really being meant for already industrialized countries where there’s an actual means of production to own. They also leave out the part about the cia getting involved. Also people tend to also forget about how Vietnam is doing just fine.

Or he at the very least personally used the terms interchangeably.

Socialism is the collective ownership of the means of production by the proletariat. Communism is the stage in human socioeconomic development following socialism in which the state has withered away, and class distinctions, money, etc. cease to exist.

See I like the first part I just feel communism is too risky.

I just personally find it a little too risky. I know it gets a bad wrap and it’s not as bad as people say, but there’s too many things that need to go right for it to work successfully.

The developmental result of socialism is communism. It seems difficult to conceptualize because it is. It’s like someone in a pre-feudal society trying to conceptualize capitalism.

It’s not just some inevitable thing, like by that logic the next step for capitalism is neo-feudalism.

I recommend reading about historical materialism to get a better understanding of why socialists absolutely do believe communism to be an inevitable stage brought about by the end result of class contradictions.

I’ll have to look into this.
