People in the comment section of US politics, despite being overwhelmingly liberal, don’t seem to have basic empathy for other liberals, so I’m not sure what baseline you are trying to establish.

"empathy is impossible" and then one is better than the other. you cant empathize with another person when they got a bad grade on an exam? remembering how you felt when something similar happened to you? caring for someone when they broke a bone because you know what that feels like yourself?
