Our nation used to riot and fight for the things they believed in, the idea that a peaceful protest is the only acceptable form of protest was instilled in us from a young age to keep us compliant

I know the full quote and the context surrounding it, but Dr. King had such an eloquent way of putting it that I don’t think you could word it better than he did

Its also worth noting that they called him a rioter too. People will look for any reason to discredit a cause if it makes them just the slightest bit uncomfortable

That’s 100% true, I’m not disputing it, and neither would Dr. King. He also pointed out that it’s not the most productive way, and to overcome it.
