60 votes are needed, a simple majority is not enough

Yes but also you realize that having majority doesn’t allow them to pass anything they want. They still have to work with the opposing party to pass things in most cases.

Yeah and conservatives can’t be adults and learn to compromise. Dems have been asking for a discussion with Trump and he’s repeatedly ignored those requests

The republicans are using a government shut down as leverage. Have you seen some of the shit proposed in the budget plans? Or more importantly all the shit that’s been left out?

Ok. Just saying that your initial post doesn’t rly make much sense in the context of saying “you cant say dems are doing this when you have majority” when majority actually has nothing to do with it

Of course they are. Everyone uses it as leverage. We are a country run by children this is not new

Agreed. Ironic considering how god damn old they all are.

You’re acting as if they’re the same and that’s just fundamentally not true and you easily see it in each party’s leadership. Schumer and Jeffries are absolute doormats who only exist to prevent leftward movement in party policies, meanwhile, and the republicans have Johnson and Scalise and then Mitch McConnell pretty much single-handedly stole 2 scotus picks, the Republican Party is vastly more effective at accomplishing their goals than the democrat party pretends to be

Wait I was under the impression Republicans just wanted everything as is? Since the OBBB gave them all their wishes? Dems are the ones that want to extend ACA tax cuts and undo Medicare cuts, no?

They want to make things worse and worse so government institutions fail, and they can justify privatizing everything, from insurance, to education, to social security, and beyond. It’s the same plan they’ve always had for like a century now.

And republicans could get those needed votes if they were willing to behave like adults and talk this through, but all discussions have been shot down repeatedly

Huh? What part of that relates to me

You quite literally just defined what negotiation is. Why/how should 50 people cave to the complete demands of 10? Negotiations go by compromising, which Democrats are not doing. Therefore shutting it down.

It’s more like the demands of 48. But they can try to make at least 10 of them happy (good luck lmao). Kinda fucked up that the house cancelled votes though. That’s absolutely playing a role too

Quite literally the democrats are the only ones to have ever offered anything meaningful in terms of compromise in comparison to the republicans who have pretty much always gotten their way over the last decade, even when the Dems had a trifecta

Republicans have used this trick FOREVER too. They have a history of using the shutdown as leverage for their own priorities. This is the one time they’re the ones proposing the clean CR, because they already got everything they wanted in the OBBB

And they have the leverage to do so. Welcome to politics bud. All of a sudden you’re against a clean bill? Because it’s republicans? Sounds like the kind of mindset that shuts a government down

I never said I’m against it because of republicans. I’m against the idea of them misleading people on the democrats’ demands. ACA premiums will go up 75% if those cuts aren’t extended, and 4M people could lose insurance if that happens. This isn’t about “giving illegals free healthcare”. They shouldn’t mislead their constituents

credits*** not cuts

The current republican position is: Pass a budget bill, negotiate ACA credits after. Dems insist it be attached. I don’t see the republican argument as the hostage holder

We know damn well there will be no negotiation after 💀 they didn’t allow for ACA negotiation during the OBBB, and they cut Medicaid too

They had the ability to extend those credits in the OBBB, and they purposely chose not to. They fearmongered about illegal immigrants getting healthcare just like they’re doing now
