Violent protest is effective. Governments have always been at the mercy of their people and when the people march on them it is evidence they are failing. A government should fear its people.
I’m not saying anyone should protest violently or anything. But I haven’t heard of any other public executions without trial in Ferguson ever since…

Nothing really changes from 2020. I doubt much is changing in France after what went down, ironically, the peaceful protests probably would’ve been enough Not against violent protesting in principle, yet it ain’t always gonna be effective

Violence on the part of individual citizens is never legitimate. The people elect the government and must work within the democratic system for whatever redress of grievances and demands for action they have

If you don’t think much will happen now what makes you think peaceful protest would have done more? You think the French state would refuse change out of spite? I wouldn’t put it past bureaucrats but that doesn’t make it right

If it was like “hey school conditions are bad”, maybe some sit ins, road blocks, etc… something probably would’ve changed, burning down whole historical buildings and stuff just blows the whole thing out of the water is redirects governance to safety and security rather than listening to needs

Like, it just seems pretty disproportionate, maybe I’m missing something. The whole national discourse completely changed once all the action went well beyond schools and into other stuff

Well the protests are expanding. It’s no longer about a single issue. And honestly there never was a single issue. People are fed up generally
