
This comment is misrepresentative, it is the actual design that soldiers fought under. It’s the battle flag for the army of northern Virginia, the most significant force that fought against the north. The importance of that army and the flag they used is shown in it being placed within the National flags. Your image is relying on a subtle technicality in an effort to trick viewers, that the square version (with the same design) was the original flag and the rectangular version was a naval flag.
yeah my comment is biased against confederates unapologetically. it doesn’t entirely misrepresent history bc it still mentions Robert E. Lee and later being adopted as the Naval Jack in it… and they still had to change it from the white flag bc it looks like the flag of surrender, hilariously. 😂
