The birth rate has been declining since 2007. The 4B movement hasn’t had even a noticeable effect on the birth rate.

The male loneliness thing is just the internet and the declining birthrates is just because there is more stuff to do now than have kids

Sort of. The male loneliness epidemic is real, but social media is more to blame from that than anything else. As for birth rates, people aren’t haven’t children because they can’t afford them.

Yeah when I say the internet I mean social media. The thing about the birthrates though is fertility rate is negatively correlated with income.

that’s not necessarily true. kids used to be less expensive but also people are more picky and want their kids upbringing to be just right now that it’s not something you are basically obligated to do as an adult. if expense was the main issue people in the poorest nations wouldn’t be having tons of them compared to rich countries

I think if we’re including the Industrial Revolution, I’d agree. Countries that go through IRs explode in population and then taper off due to kids no longer needing to be an insurance policy for bringing more income in. However, we were above a 2.0 birth rate in 2007. We haven’t really recovered from 2008 in the sense of putting assets and resources in the hands of those who are going to have children.

Well this is where discotheque is correct when talking about higher gdp/income negatively impacting fertility rates. Throughout the early 1980s and into the early 2000s, we still were fluctuating between replacement rate(2.1 births).
