If you don’t know what that is, it’s a Native American cultural celebration. Almost every tribe has a yearly powwow. There’s dances, costumes, music, food, vendors. It’s a beautiful celebration that shows the diversity of our country and that native culture isn’t something of the past. It’s alive and transformative and modern. There are dancers with beaded medallions of Godzilla and Stitch.

A powwow shows how culture and community survives through hardship, it shows how native and non-native communities come together in celebration. It is inspiring and reminds me that we have a way forward.
