Sorry to disappoint you ๐ท๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, but I live in the ๐ก๐ฎ๐ช๐ต ๐๐ธ๐ป๐ต๐ญ. Where cobalt mining is destroying the ocean floor, public AI use is erasing the rainforests, trans people are real, and people are starving under a capitalistic oligarchy.I know a shit ton about mining (also this is my first public comment here hi everyone! ๐) Ocean floor mining is still in its very early infancy. We know itโs there and roughly how much is there, but we donโt have the equipment to actually extract them from the floor in economic quantities, nor do we have established processing circuits to concentrate the cobalt from the deep sea nodules. But currently cobalt mining is very destructive in artisanal (non-industrial) mining communities
A ton of places in Africa used forced child labor in inhumane conditions to extract this stuff. Itโs a lot less than it was a decade ago, but still somewhere around 15% of the global supply comes from these kind of places. Thatโs not mentioning the lack of environmental regulations leading to the destruction of rainforests and rivers.
