Friendly reminder that if your family is of Irish or Italian heritage, your ancestors were probably seen as “lesser than white” and “uncivilized.” Hate has always been manufactured for the benefit of the dominant social group. Don’t fall for it now

every time you meet an Irish American you flip a coin that’s either really progressive or really racist

i havent done any research just some mild pondering, but since a lot of europeans were not white like others, who were the "true whites"? i imagine germans and englishmen, maybe eastern europeans (russia/poland) but dubious on that. i expect french, maaaybe spanish.

Yeah unfortunately I think it’s kind of lost on a lot of people given we’re now just white and enjoy all the privileges of being white. But if you go back even just like 100 years, Irish people were severely discriminated against by Anglo-Saxon Protestants. Much closer to the lower classes of society than being white and English. But racists forget that and cling onto “whiteness” as if all that shit didn’t happen

Yeah the legal ones love this country let’s not generalize legal and illegal immigrants. When I see rioters of illegals in cali waiving the flags of the nations they don’t want to return too, yeah I generally get the vibe they don’t love this country

I’ve never seen conservatives bitch and moan when people celebrate st Patrick’s day and wave Irish flags on American streets. But when it’s cinco de Mayo or black history month, and legal or undocumented people are waving the Mexico flag or black American heritage flag all of a sudden it’s “these immigrants/brown/black people hate America”. Respectfully please sybau.

Bruh, cinco de mayo is an American made up holiday to sell beer. Look at the last 50 years and ok how many Irish riots there have been. Talk to any true Irish American or Cuban American and they’ll tell ya how much they love this country. They don’t burn the US flag like certain other groups…

That’s outright nonsense. Cinco de Mayo was a celebration of a battle victory that happened in 1862. Also, Flag burning is protected by the First Amendment ya know

The holiday is very very minor in Mexico. Beer company’s made it a big thing here. Also just because you can legally burn the American flag doesn’t mean you should. This nation has done so much for people, it’s crazy to bite the hand that has feed them.

Who are you to tell people what to do with their first amendment rights. I’m not sure how burning an American flag bites the hand that feeds

That’s not what you said tho, you said it was a made up holiday made by beer companies which is an outright ludicrous statement. People burn the American flag as a way to protest against injustice committed by the American government and it is protected as our Founding Fathers intended.

Arnold Schwarzenegger said it best when you go to a foreign country you are a guest. It’s rude to take advantage of your host. What do you think would happen if traveled to China, Somalia, or even Mexico and burned their nations flag in the street while screaming long live America. I wouldn’t make any friends lol. Best case scenario I leave those nations in one peace

That’s not a good example because Americans are pretty universally hated in foreign countries for being obnoxious and entitled guests. So you’re fine with US citizens burning the flag then, because they are not “guests”?

they showed up on a boat and didn't have tuberculosis. that was literally all they had to do. modern day immigration laws were put in place to specifically make it harder for minorities to come here.
