Patriotism is for losers. Parasocial relationship with a government that calls you a number. Be proud of what YOU do for yourself and community. All other pride is blindness and wasted.

If you don’t care about what happens in other countries, then ask your congressman to stop using American tax dollars to fund Israel’s military and instead invest in building real social safety nets here at home, like universal healthcare, accessible education, and stronger food security, the kinds of systems other successful OECD nations already have.

Patriotism isn’t for losers. There is something valuable and cool about admiring the place you come from and who built it. Recognizing and learning those things can help us to preserve our institutions and make them better.

And yes, I’m a leftist, thank you very much. In case that’s unclear, that means I believe the current dictatorship of the bourgeoisie (those who control capital) should be replaced with a more democratic system: a dictatorship of the proletariat, where workers have real power.

No. I can admire Paris for its architectural style and history, yet I am not a French person. I admire Barcelona for it’s centimeter accuracy in planning and development, yet I have no spanish dna and have only been there once. I admire Chongquin for similar reason. I admire the vatican even though I am not baptized and my family renounced catholicism. I admire what great works humans from everywhere in the world have made because I am human and to be human is to pursue greatness.

Patriotism necessitates exceptionalism and supremacist thought. Pride in being a human does not. Being proud of what every person can accomplish when we work hard and work together outpaces patriotism in every area patriotism claims importance. I might not know what a soccer player from Vietnam is saying but I can understand the importance of his skills. I am proud most of all of what me and my friends accomplish because it has our name on it. I can say I helped the world in some positive way.

that’s a casualty of war… which is why we try to avoid it… Palestinians voted in hamas TWICE… they knew and actively advocate for the displacement of Israelis… if native Americans tried the same shit I would be 100% consistent

Israel provides the US crucial access to the Middle East… a region which btw carried out 9/11 and actively opposes our way of life.. lgbt, democracy, uh idk freedom of religion… among other things… Israel is actively hated by all of its neighbors so it’s a transactional relationship

How the fuck did you get to that conclusion? “Patriotism is dumb because realistically I share little more of a connection to the people one state over than one ocean over, all human aconplishments are valuable and limiting my understanding of history and culture to only one nation is to limit my understanding of the world to one thinking on the basis of alleged similarities” “OH so YoU hAtE AmErIcA ok COMMUNIEST” shut the fuck up, bone brain.

Vietnam is unironically less corrupt and more progressive than the best state in this country. America is, statistically speaking, 47 3rd world dumpsters in a trench coat with the Pacific coast carrying all you dumb red hicks from Sisterfuckistan, Tennessee. No, I’m not joking. 47 of the 50 states in the union would qualify below the 20 best third world nations on HDI and GINI. The other 3 barely beat out the likes of Bulgaria and Romania on everything. This is what patriotism does. Lobotomies.

I said it’s what you’re implying not what you actually said lol. It’s good to learn about world history, but personally I find it more important to know the history that has a more direct impact on me in this moment. Hence, why I feel it’s more important to understand American history as an American than world history.

The palestinian people could vote for Cluthulu incarnate and that still wouldn’t give Israel (fake made up country of white jews) a sliver of a reason to kill hundreds of thousands of them. George Washington made America because the british made tea and paper 5% more expensive and started reconsidering SLAVERY. Hamas exists because Israel won’t stop massacring Palestinians and stealing everything, all of whom are the direct and sole descendants of the ancient native jewish Hebrew population.

Ok. I take back calling you an idiot. You do have part of this right, but you can’t understand American history by only studying American history. It’s more important to understand everyone else’s history from their perspective so you can understand the decisions America has made as a nation. The first thing you learn in advanced history is why primary sources are important. The second thing you learn is to never trust a primary source, especially not one writing about something they did.

The U.S., Israel, and Saudi Arabia have actually played major roles in funding and arming many of the same extremist groups that destabilized the region and now “threaten our way of life.” The 9/11 attacks themselves are an example of blowback, a term used to describe the unintended consequences of U.S. interference abroad, especially its involvement in the Middle East during the Cold War and beyond.

Before Western intervention, the region was one of the world’s great centers of culture, science, and religious coexistence. There were thriving communities of different faiths and ethnicities, and in many places, societies were more tolerant of diversity, including LGBTQ people, than they would become after decades of foreign-backed conflict and regime change.

It is also important to remember that Saudi Arabia, one of our closest allies in the region, was actually the country responsible for 9/11, not the nations the U.S. has spent decades invading.

The ones targeted just happened to have the natural resources and strategic value that American corporations and lobbyists wanted. So when people say the Middle East “hates our way of life,” it is worth remembering that much of that hostility came from decades of our own government backing coups, wars, and militias there. Actions have consequences, and 9/11 was one of them.

We “bombed” iran (dropped a bunker buster on an empty mountain) because iran “bombed” us (hit a warehouse outside of a base) because Israel actually did straight up drop a bomb in Iran to kill the 10,923,672nd “head nuclear research scientist and satanic occult grand leader of the Iranian jihadi hive mind” because they were “1.4167420 milliseconds away” from inventing the “super gamma neutron bomb of total human extinction” for the 82,092,133,090,151st time in the past 40 years.
