The issue we have with monopolies is not merely price gouging. It’s environmental damage, lower wages, monopolies get to set the regulation, lower R&D, suppressing alternatives, unfair terms to suppliers, etc. Think X and WaPo and other bought news

Monopolies are a good thing. A big Walmart is that carry exactly what I need is better than 10 small shops that have nothing

No competition means they can raise prices. This is basic economics.

They haven’t raised prices tho. Infact prices at monopolies are usually a lot cheaper

Antitrust regulation often merely focuses on prices whereas there’s all the other issues I mentioned And of course, there’s the opportunity cost, who knows how much better things would be if monopolies didnt undercut / predatory price viable alternatives

Back in the day, people thought predatory pricing was impossible, Since whenever a monopoly would increase prices again, another alternative would just come up. Obviously that aged like warm milk in the sun…

Yep, now we have so many god damn restrictions on the market that fair competition is rare in every industry.
